SESSION 3 · LESSON PLAN · HOBBS TIME RECORDS
Every Crash Is Educational
The farewell. Six tracks. Two of the four had airline interviews on the calendar when they cut it, one had already taken a freight job, and the fourth had already decided to stay in Prescott, which the record is entirely and unmistakably about. The last track is four minutes of a man describing what he should have done differently, over a riff that never resolves.

Fall of ninety-two, the bay at night, the motion base was cold Corey on a visual approach he should have never flown A hundred and forty knots into the rising ground, the screen went red Pelletier had seen the last four seconds, and here is what he said Every crash is educational! Reset the sim! Nobody died! That is the whole point! Ninety-nine, the bay at night, and I'm the one who has the key Two of us have interviews, one took the freight job, one is me I'm at the instructor station with a student who's nineteen Same visual, same rising ground, same red across the screen I watched the last four seconds And I heard somebody say Every crash is educational! Reset the sim! Nobody died! That is the whole point! You're going to remember this. Not the checklist. This. The red, and the sound it didn't make. In the airplane, this lesson costs everything. In here it costs a reset. That's all he ever meant. Every crash is educational! Reset the sim! I heard him say it In my voice
